I offer studio or home visit newborn session. They are both great options for different reasons. The decision mostly comes down to what style of photos it is that you would prefer so I will explain both to you and hopefully it will help you decide. This choice can also be influenced by whether you have a natural or C-Section birth too in terms of recovery, comfort and willingness to leave the house in the early days.
In both we would always get a full range of shots that include baby alone, mum and baby, dad and baby, full family group shots, sibling photos, macro detail shots of cute little hands, feet and facial features and also the use of props and cute little outfits depending on your preferences. Also we can decide to focus more on whichever your priority is if you like.
In my studio sessions we have access to a full range of props such as baskets, different backgrounds and setups. We can also use my beanbag poser where your baby is photographed in the traditional newborn style on different coloured blankets, wrapping/swaddling your baby and wearing cute outfits. Then for the family group photos we have 9 different backgrounds for you to choose from depending on what style of photos you'd prefer.
During my home visit sessions, I come to your house and get a more natural style of photos in various locations around your home which are called "lifestyle" shots and use beautiful natural light. I can bring a couple of props, blankets, wraps and cute outfits in order to create a few studio-like photos for the baby alone shots but mostly we would utilise spaces around your home in a natural setting. This also has the added bonus of you being in the comfort of your own home which can be good when you have an older siblings. Depending on their age, older siblings tend to be a little easier to include in photos when at home compared to a studio setting (but we are always able to get sibling shots in the studio too).
Also, I usually request my clients to send me a range of particular types of photos that you prefer by looking on my website at my previous portfolios or by all means if you have seen examples elsewhere that you like on Google, Pinterest or even other photographers. You can then screenshot any and send them to me via email. It helps me build an image of your likes and dislikes and then I create a tailored shot list for your session so that we get lots of photos that you love.
The best time to photograph newborns is when they are 6-10 days old because this is when they are most sleepy and womb like still, making it easier to get most shots. Plus they just look SUPER cute at this age so generally, the earlier the better. Older than 10 days is absolutely fine though too and I have shot newborn sessions up to 12 weeks old. With older babies you just need to keep in mind that as they get older it can make some of the trickier shots less achievable and that sometimes the shoots can take a little longer because we need more time for soothing and feeding in between photos but that's not a problem at all.
My newborn sessions are $1150 which is an all-inclusive cost (Home visits are an additional $50 call-out fee). The shoot usually takes around 3hrs and includes a minimum of 40-50+ fully edited high resolution JPEG images. You would receive your own personal online gallery where you can view and download the images at anytime from anywhere in the world. It's set up so you can easily share the images with friends and family by just giving them your password and login details.
If you're interested in making a booking, we can chat about the shoot in further detail. Hope that is all ok.
Any questions please let me know.
